Ipil City, located in the southwestern Province of Zamboanga Sibugay, Mindanao is not easy to get to. The travel is long and sometimes requires a combination of land, sea, and air. Making it even more difficult is the ongoing tension in the region between Islamic factions and the Philippines government that frequently erupts in violence.
None of these things were a deterrent to Pastor Marlie Jainar of the Edge Guihulnan in the Visayas. On March 29th he embarked on the 18 hour journey to Ipil to join Pastor Geoffrey Balatero of Edge Sibugay to conduct a broadcast, marketing and production workshop for his broadcast team.
“We’re so grateful for the training that Pastor Marlie has provided for our team and how it is making us more effective in communicating the Gospel. Leaving behind his own ministry and making this trip was no easy thing.” – Pastor Geoffrey Balatero
Like most members of the Edge Radio leadership team, Pastor Marlie works other jobs to support his own ministry calling. By day he works for Non-Governmental Organizations as a Field Officer and Project Facilitator to support his role as pastor and manager of the Edge Guihulngan. Like his colleagues, Pastor Marlie gives sacrificially of his time and limited personal resources to the ministry.
To me this a beautiful picture of what it means to live and serve in the body of Christ and I’m so blessed to see this in operation at every level of the ministry. It reminds me of what we read about the early church in the book of Acts.
“All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.” – Acts 4:32
When I see this level of selflessness, I’m simultaneously convicted and inspired.
As we first shared with you in January, The Edge Guilhulngan is in the process of upgrading their transmitter.
Thanks to the generosity of many of our friends, we’ve been able to collect close to $4,400 toward our needed $8,000 goal.
Praise the Lord and thanks to everyone who has prayed for and supported this project thus far!!! We now have just $3,600 to raise to make this upgrade a reality and when we do the results will be huge. The very first Edge Radio station in the Visayas, one of the most storm ravaged regions in the Philippines, will be offering the eternal hope of a relationship with Christ with nearly 1 million Filipinos. WOW…such a huge return for such a relatively small investment!
Will you join this effort with a special one-time gift? Pastor Marlie and his team have prayed so long for this dream to come true and we’re almost there!
“God bless you for helping us reach so many more with the GoodNews! Maraming salamat po!” – Pastor Marlie, Edge Guihulngan Station Manager
